Sarreguemines Pot de Foie Gras with Bacchus Heads

5.75 x 4.75”

A French stoneware pot by Sarreguemines, likely dating to the 1920s or 1930s, finished in a rich red-brown glaze with a pale cream interior and rim. Originally used to store foie gras, it features sculpted Bacchus-like heads on both sides—a classical decorative detail that adds symmetry and character.

The lid is shaped like a mushroom cap, giving the piece a subtly playful silhouette. The glossy surface comes from two separate glazes: a deep iron-rich brown applied over the body and lid, and a soft cream glaze poured into the interior and around the rim. Both were fired together, creating the warm contrast and durable finish typical of early 20th-century French kitchenware. Marked Sarreguemines France on the base.
