Rare Antique Gien Jardinière with Molded Ceramic Mounts
Faïencerie de Gien, France | c. 1875–1900
17.5” W x 8.5” D x 3.25” H

An exceptionally rare French faïence jardinière from the Faïencerie de Gien, fully formed in glazed ceramic — including the molded grotesque-style “mounts” at each end and striking pyramid feet, all painted to mimic bronze. The body is decorated in vibrant transfer florals with hand-painted accents in rust, ochre, violet, and sage, framed by scrolling Renaissance-inspired panels. A striking and unusual piece of late 19th-century French ceramic design. Stamped with early Gien monogram (c. 1875–1900), this piece is fully ceramic, including mounts and feet

Difficult to find in this form — no known comparables currently available. A standout display piece for lovers of French faïence and 19th-century decorative arts.

Styling Notes
This rare Gien jardinière adds depth and character wherever it’s placed. Use it as a centerpiece on a dining table or console, filled with dried florals, preserved greenery, or seasonal fruit for a painterly, Old World look. It works beautifully on a mantel or bookshelf, especially when layered into a vignette with gilt frames, portraits, or candlesticks to play off its sculptural shape. For an unexpected twist, try it on a desk or vanity to hold brushes, letters, or small objects. In a guest bath, it can be styled with soaps or hand towels for a touch of elegance.

One small chip visible at the site of an old rim repair, photographed and priced accordingly. Fine allover crazing and age-appropriate wear.
