Pair of French Neoclassical Faïence Architecture Plates, Stone, Coquerel et Le Gros, Creil, circa 1810

Sale price$265.00

A matched pair of octagonal architecture plates in faïence fine, transfer-printed in Paris by Stone, Coquerel et Le Gros on Creil blanks, circa 1810. One shows the Palais Impérial de Versailles from the garden side, the other the École de Médecine and the new fountain in Paris, each titled beneath the scene. The neoclassical borders carry winged helmet-heads, arrow bundles, and small shields around a beaded edge. Both are marked on the reverse with the round Stone, Coquerel et Le Gros stamp over an impressed CREIL. Made as much for display as for the table, the two views read beautifully together, propped on a shelf, hung on a wall, or layered under a compote or a stack of old books.

Condition: Fine crazing and softening of the transfer consistent with age and use. The École de Médecine plate has a small glaze chip to one corner of the rim; the Versailles plate has light staining to the well. Offered as found.

Dimensions: Octagonal, approximately 8 inches and 9.25 inches across.
