Mid-Century French Floral Still Life
Mid-Century French Floral Still Life
c. 1940s–60s
15” H x 10.5” W (including frame)
Oil on board, signed lower right Roger Bloch and inscribed on the reverse: “à Janine, très affectueusement, Roger.” This French mid-century still life depicts a bouquet of roses in a tall vase, painted in expressive impasto with a muted, blended palette. The technique reflects post-impressionist and École de Paris influences, where gesture and color were favored over realism. Likely the work of a regional or amateur painter.
Housed in its original wood frame with a gilt finish. Surface wear and patina are consistent with age.
Ideal for gallery wall arrangements, particularly when paired with other florals, portraits, or gilt-framed works. Also well suited for smaller spaces like a bedroom, hallway, or powder room, where its texture and palette add depth and softness.
