K: Antique French Escutcheon/Salvage Ornament on Antique Ribbon — Paris

Sale price$62.00

An antique French keyhole escutcheon (entrée de serrure) or salvage piece paired with an antique French ribbon. Each ornament is one-of-a-kind, with its original warm brass/bronze patina and a length of antique velvet or woven jacquard ribbon. Lovely age, light surface wear, and small irregularities consistent with authentic use. Choose your favorite from the dropdown or see individual listings for exact details.

— Both the escutcheon and the ribbon are antique and were sourced by me in Paris.

French escutcheons like these were made for 19th–early 20th-century furniture and doors, protecting the wood around the keyhole while adding ornament. Motifs range from Rococo scrolls and beading to laurel wreaths and classical foliage, reflecting popular styles from Louis-Philippe through the Belle Époque. Pairing them with antique ribbon (ruban ancien) keeps the materials period-appropriate and lets the metal’s old patina shine.
