Green Transferware Ravier

Sale price$58.00

Clairefontaine Trouville Faïence Ravier

Early 20th Century

A beautifully shaped French faïence ravier from Clairefontaine à Trouville, decorated in a deep green transfer pattern with lovely craquelure throughout the glaze. The elongated, organic form is especially charming and a less common silhouette for this Normandy maker. Stamped on the underside with the Clairefontaine Trouville anchor mark.

Excellent vintage condition with expected craquelure and minor age-related wear.

Measures 9.25” x 5”

Styling
A versatile piece for olives, nuts, chocolates, or small sides, and equally beautiful as a catch-all on a desk or nightstand. Its sculptural shape and classic French patterning make it easy to style on open shelving or within a larger tabletop arrangement.

Historical Notes:

Clairefontaine in Trouville-sur-Mer was one of several small regional faïence workshops active in the early 20th century, producing decorative and utilitarian ceramics in limited quantities. Ravier forms were traditional serving pieces used for hors d’oeuvres or small accompaniments at the French table.
