Bas Relief in Antique Gilt Frame
Vintage Porcelain Relief in 19th-Century French Gilded Wood Frame, 1980–1984
A finely modeled bisque porcelain relief by Royal Copenhagen, mounted in an antique 19th-century French gilded wood frame* with classical applied ornament. Crisp detailing, a matte white finish, and luminous gold leaf create elegant contrast. Minor surface wear to the frame consistent with age.

Depth: 1.5"
Relief opening: ~5.5" diameter
Beautiful layered into a salon-style wall, above a console, or in a vignette balanced with mirrors, architectural fragments, and small classical bronzes. The palette mixes easily with both French Empire and Louis-Philippe influences.
Royal Copenhagen reissued neoclassical reliefs during the early 1980s, drawing from 19th-century molds. Antique gilt frames were often paired with these medallions, creating historically referential decorative accents for interiors.
*The antique French frame features classical motifs — acanthus, shell scrolls, and applied corner ornament — popular in the late Louis-Philippe period. These details echo the neoclassical language of the bisque relief, making the pairing historically consistent and visually seamless.
