Antique Red Transfer Saucière

Sale price$138.00

Gien Red Transfer Saucière (Fainette Body)

 c.1890–1910

A beautiful French saucière with attached underplate by Gien, produced in their finer Fainette body a higher end line within their range during this period and decorated in a red transfer motif of perched birds and delicate florals. The shell-mold handles, softly scalloped rim, and gently footed base reflect the refined detailing typical of Gien’s late 19th early 20th century work. Marked “Gien – Fainette – Médaille d’Or – Honneur” on the underside.

 Measures 10” x 4.25”

In very good antique condition with minor age-related wear along the rim of the underplate and light surface wear expected for the period.

Styling

Perfect for serving sauces or gravies at the table, or styled as a decorative accent on open shelving. The red transfer makes it especially charming through the holidays and year-round in a collected French kitchen.

Historical Note's

Gien introduced Fainette as a fine faïence body during the late 19th century, used alongside their traditional earthenware. Red transfer motifs with birds and botanical elements were popular during this era, inspired by both Romantic and Japonisme influences. The attached underplate form is a classic of French table service, designed for both practicality and presentation.
