Sale price$185.00

Antique French Ribbon-Top Frame with Postcard: Le Ciel, Boulevard de Clichy
Stamped metal with original silk moiré mat | Includes antique French postcard | c. 1900–1920
9⅛″ × 6⅝″ overall | Opening: approx. 6" x 4.25"

A stunning antique French frame with a gilded brass surround and delicately pressed detailing, crowned with a dimensional ribbon top. The inner mat is wrapped in a luminous golden silk moiré fabric that beautifully complements the warm patina of the metal, a timeless and evocative pairing.

The frame houses an antique French postcard depicting Le Ciel, a theatrical cabaret once located on the Boulevard de Clichy in Paris. With its Gothic Revival façade and whimsical celestial theme, Le Ciel was part of a trio of venues (Le Ciel, L’Enfer, and Le Néant) that captured the fin de siècle fascination with the afterlife and the fantastical. The original black and white postcard is mounted over a subtly textured paper backing, giving it the presence of a miniature print.

The back retains its original papered panel and working turn-style brass closures. The easel back allows the piece to stand upright, though it could also be adapted for wall display. A beautiful marriage of decorative arts and historic Parisian ephemera.
