Antique Double Gilt Brass Frame with Beveled Glass

Sale price$225.00

Double Gilt Brass Frame with Beveled Glass, c. 1900–1920
5" x 7" overall | 4¼" x 2½" each pane

A refined double tabletop frame in gilt brass, featuring two beveled glass panels joined at the center by a delicate flower motif and supported on classic ball feet. The hinged construction creates a graceful V-shape that allows portraits to be displayed side by side, the beveled glass catching and reflecting light in a soft, luminous way.

Frames of this type were popular at the turn of the 20th century, crafted in France and Belgium by small metalworking ateliers that specialized in gilt-brass accessories—photograph frames, jewelry boxes, and vanity pieces. The beveled glass was cut and polished by hand, then secured in thin brass borders often gilded over bronze or brass alloy. The small floral clasp at the hinge was a common decorative motif during the Belle Époque and persisted into the early 1920s, symbolizing refinement and sentimentality in domestic objects.

Includes antique postcard fragments used as backing, offering a glimpse of the early 20th century correspondence that once circulated through these same regions.

Styling suggestion: Perfect on a writing desk, mantel, or vanity—displayed with sepia portraits, pressed flowers, or small ink drawings. Its symmetrical form works beautifully layered among books or decorative boxes, or paired with other gilt frames for a collected, turn-of-the-century vignette.
