Aquarelle de Roses – Antique and Signed (c. 1890–1920)

Sale price$188.00

Watercolor Roses, Signed (c. 1890–1920)

A delicate and beautifully executed watercolor of blooming roses, signed in the lower corner (appears to read H. F. Eliot, though the signature is not fully confirmed). The artist’s subtle handling of color and detail captures the softness and romanticism of traditional botanical studies, with rich pink and burgundy tones set against a muted background.

The watercolor is on paper and has been adhered to a backing board, a common presentation method of the period. Faint pencil marks, intentionally left visible by the artist, add a layer of texture and insight into the work’s creation. Light surface wear and minor signs of age are present, consistent with its antique nature (please see photos).

  • Dimensions: approx. 14 x 19.75 inches
  • Medium: watercolor on paper, laid down on board
  • Signature: present (appears to read H. F. Eliot)
  • Sourced: Paris
  • Estimated date: c. 1890–1920
