Antique Turned Wood Match Striker with Pedestal Base

Sale price$128.00

This is an exceptionally rare example of a match striker in turned wood—a material almost never used for this purpose due to its flammability. Likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, it features a sculptural pedestal form with a narrow mouth and fine, hand-turned grooves designed to strike matches.

4 ¾” tall x 3 ½” base diameter x 2” mouth opening

Most antique match strikers were made in ceramic, stoneware, or metal. To find one in solid wood—and in this striking silhouette—is highly unusual. The warm tone and visible grain add to its charm, while the stepped base and vertical profile give it a distinctly architectural feel.

  • Finely grooved surface for use with strike-anywhere matches (now hard to find)
  • Marked on underside (HP 0830), possibly from a workshop or collection archive
  • A modern match striker sticker can be included for practical use
  • Also works beautifully as a holder for toothpicks, incense, or simply as a decorative object
