Antique Painted Wood Footstool, Bird and Urn Motif, Worn White Paint

Small hand-built footstool. Slab top on two shaped plank legs, each cut with an arched foot, joined simply and pinned. A humble country piece made for daily use.

The top is hand-painted with a folk motif: a blue footed urn of leafy branches at the center, flanked by a pair of birds, with smaller sprigs and scrolls filling the field in ochre, green, and blue. The paint has worn down to the bare wood in the way only real use produces, thinning across the center where feet and hands passed over it, with the crackled white ground breaking up on the sides and legs. What's left reads soft and sun-faded rather than fresh.

Condition
Sold as found. Heavy paint wear and loss overall, most of the top surface worn through to wood, with crackling, flaking, knocks, and old soiling throughout. Structurally sound and stands solid.
