Antique French Watercolor Landscape, signed Fernand-Jay 1937

A French watercolor landscape in the post-Impressionist tradition, signed and dated lower left "Fernand-Jay 1937." The composition looks across a still river toward a low village on the far bank, the silhouette of a Gothic church spire rising from the rooftops, flanked in the foreground by two tall poplars whose dark masses frame the view in the tradition of Corot and the Barbizon school. The palette is restrained and atmospheric, dominated by soft greens, mauve-greys, and the warm earth tones of the riverbank path.
