Antique French Porte Montre
French Pocket Watch Display Casket – Circa 1900
4 x 2.5 x 2.5
A rare and beautifully preserved French porte-montre dating to around 1900, originally designed to display a gentleman’s pocket watch. Made during the Belle Époque, it features beveled glass panels on all sides, offering exceptional clarity and light play.
The cast metal frame has a delicate diamond-patterned texture, with ornate scrolled feet and a twisted wire handle—an uncommon and highly decorative combination. The hinged lid opens smoothly to reveal the original silk moiré lining, with its subtle watermark pattern still visible. A small hook suspends a pocket watch inside, while the silk cushion below was designed to cradle the chain.
Style it on a stack of books, tuck it into a vignette, or repurpose it to showcase a favorite brooch or miniature portrait. This charming piece was once a fixture of the French dressing table, and it still holds all the quiet elegance of that world.
