Antique French Miniature Mahogany Bedside Cabinet (Chevet)

A miniature bedside cabinet, or chevet, in mahogany, with a single paneled door showing warm flame figure, set on a simple base with turned feet. A brass ball knob fastens the door. The proportions are plain and architectural, the kind of honest small cabinet that anchors a dolls' bedroom.

Miniature furniture of this kind was made in 19th-century France for display and personal use, scaled down with real care so a small piece still reads as a proper cabinet.

Condition: The old finish has a charming crazed, alligatored surface from age. General wear, a few small holes, and a small old chip at one corner.
