Antique French Lunéville Faïence Cake Plate, signed K&G, Light Rococo Bouquet
A French faïence footed cake plate (compotier) from the Keller et Guérin manufactory in Lunéville, in a lighter rococo variation of the vieux Strasbourg bouquet pattern. The center is loosely composed with a pink cabbage rose, yellow flowers, a small purple tulip-bud, and scattered green-leaf sprigs across the cavetto, the brushwork airy and rococo in spirit. The scalloped rim carries the same red feathering with blue and yellow trim. The ceramic itself is molded with fluted panels following the scalloped rim, and the pedestal foot is embossed with low-relief feather and shell motifs that the painter then picked out in red, a hand-finished detail characteristic of K&G work of this period.
Marked on the underside with the Keller et Guérin crown stamp over LUNÉVILLE, the K&G manufactory's signature device used in the late 19th and early 20th century.
Condition: Pronounced glaze crazing throughout the body and foot (entirely typical of K&G Lunéville pieces of this period and considered part of the character), light staining within the crazing on the cavetto, no chips or losses.
Dimensions: 9.25 × 4.5 in.
