Antique French Alabaster Apothecary Jar, Large | Hand-Turned, 19th Century
Pot d'Apothicaire en Albâtre — Grand
A carved and lathe-turned alabaster apothecary jar, France, 19th century. Cylindrical form with stepped collar, ringed foot, and domed lid with turned knob finial — the classical pharmacie form, here executed in translucent natural alabaster with the warm veining that only genuine stone carries. The translucency is remarkable: held to light, the stone glows from within. Scarce on the American market in this scale and condition.
Display alone on a marble surface, stone shelf, or wooden console. Group with other apothecary forms or with French ceramic pots for a collected pharmacie aesthetic. The translucency rewards placement near a light source.
