Antique cruche à huile

Antique French Cruche à Huile | 19th Century Glazed Terracotta Jug

11” H

A striking 19th-century cruche à huile from southwestern France, hand-thrown in terracotta and finished with a deep, glossy brown glaze. The double-handled form and narrow neck reflect its original purpose: storing and pouring oil or other kitchen staples while protecting them from light and heat. Time has left its mark in the most beautiful way—exposing flashes of the red clay beneath the glaze and giving this piece a warm, tactile patina. Lovely timeworn condition with expected wear to the glaze and surface, all consistent with age and use.

Styling Notes:

With its sculptural silhouette and rich surface character, this piece stands beautifully on its own or as part of a vignette. Style it alongside lighter Provençal pottery or weathered wood for contrast, or let it ground a kitchen shelf with a sense of history and weight.

Sourced in Paris.
