Antique Apothecary Jar

Sale price$158.00

This antique ceramic apothecary jar was once a staple in a 19th-century European pharmacy. Labeled “SAPO ANIMAL”Latin for animal soap, it would have held a soap made from tallow, traditionally used for medicinal and cleaning purposes.

Crafted from white-glazed ceramic with a classic domed lid and delicate gold line detailing, the jar features a hand-painted label. The aging of the hand painting and worn surface adds to its authentic charm, consistent with products of that age that were used.

This apothecary jar offers both charm and function. In the bathroom, use it to hold cotton balls, bath salts, or reusable rounds alongside natural brushes and vintage soap dishes. In the kitchen, it makes a practical salt or sugar container or a holder for small utensils. On a desk, it adds character as a pen holder next to brass clips and antique paperweights. For a more decorative touch, place it on a bookshelf among vintage books or display it with glass jars and copper accents in a collected, lived-in arrangement. Its utilitarian origins and timeless design make it a versatile piece for any space.
