The covers show a pharmacy shelf with jars and a scale, a writing desk with a red quill, an inkwell and a photograph album, and a game larder with a hare, a bird and a bowl of peaches. The pharmacy shelf on Un grand patron reproduces a still life by Alexandre-François Desportes, painter to Louis XIV, and the volumes carry photographic inserts from the films made of the novels. Light soiling to the cloth, a few small spots to the boards, spines clean and lettered in black. Le Club de la Femme was one of them, aimed at women readers, and its editions ran to cloth boards with a painting reproduced on the front, decorated endpapers and photographs from the screen adaptations, made to sit on a shelf as much as to be read.
