The form descends from the eighteenth-century petit potager used on French country tables for stews, compotes, and preserves.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSttling notes: Exactly the kind of small footed tureen that anchors a styled French country shelf or shows beautifully on an open dresser with linen and brass. The honey tone reads warmly against blue and white, ironstone, or alongside other yellow ware.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCondition: Brown speckling throughout the body and especislly the interior consistent with period French yellow ware (a matter of charm in country pieces of this age). A chip and loss to the lid and finial, and minor glaze wear to the rim and foot.
